LAGOS – The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has achieved a significant milestone in its drive to strengthen operational excellence, safety, and service delivery across the state’s waterways with the successful receipt of an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification for its Quality Management System (QMS).

The certification marks a major step forward for the agency, reaffirming its commitment to internationally recognised standards and best practices in the management of Lagos’ inland waterways.

The achievement was formally recognised at a mini certificate presentation ceremony jointly organised by West Sealand International (WSI) and LASWA on Wednesday. The event brought together key stakeholders to celebrate the Authority’s progress in embedding quality management principles into its operations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, commended the management of LASWA for its commitment to maintaining international standards, particularly in the areas of safety and quality within the Lagos water transport sector.

The Commissioner noted that the achievement aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, particularly the administration’s focus on improving transportation infrastructure, strengthening institutional capacity, and delivering efficient public services.

The ISO certification is expected to further reinforce LASWA’s systems and processes, promote consistency in service delivery, and enhance public confidence in the state’s water transportation sector.

For LASWA, the recognition represents more than a certification, it is a testament to the Authority’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, operational efficiency, safety, and excellence, as Lagos continues to develop its waterways as a vital component of an integrated transportation system.

The milestone also underscores the growing importance of internationally aligned management systems in building stronger, more accountable and efficient public institutions.
